читать дальшеAlso, in the novel, Run Yu met his nephew for the first time when the little boy was fishing for a wife. That meant he had stayed away from Jin Mi until he had seen the boy fishing by the river. In the drama, however, the little boy was already very familiar with his Uncle Run Yu and mentioned that Run Yu was the only one who remembered his given name. Even his parents didn't remember his name and just referred to him by his nickname ("Little Egret"). Therefore, it was assumed that Run Yu had been secretly stopping by the Mortal Realm, supposedly to catch glimpses of Jin Mi from afar. From the familiar way the little boy greeted Run Yu by the river, it looked like Run Yu had stopped by very often to spend time with the boy. Somehow, this makes me cry for Run Yu even more. The poor man. He stops by to peek at the woman he loves and to hang out with the boy that could have been his son had circumstances been different. Then he returns to the Heaven Realm and sits there alone on his throne. Wow, how sad can it get? Geez. 1 KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago (edited) You are not alone in not watching 'Silence'... My best friend has never seen it because she hates violence and horror... If it is a great story I don't mind. What I am referring to is how the killer would take his female victims and trap them in a pit. Then he would make them rub lotion on to make them soft so he could skin them later and make a homemade 'woman suit'.
He would place the bottles in a basket and lower it down to them. After the girls rubbed the lotion on while begging, crying and protesting he would respond with, "It puts the lotion in the basket." over and over to make them place it back in the tote and he would raise the lotion back up to him. Determined not to see how much the girls are hurting by his actions... It's pretty messed up tbh.
I just see Run Yu becoming so cold and not letting Jin Mi go by the end of the series... I can understand why because he gave so much and she gave so little (almost nothing) in return. But he was so obsessed with her staying with him that I could see Run Yu ignoring the emotional pain she was in... Hoping that she would eventually turn to him, even if it took thousands of years. It is my dark and twisted humour so please forgive me...
Run Yu had no clue how to romance or seduce Jin Mi.. (ꐦ ´͈ ᗨ `͈ ) He clumsily tried to convince her father that he and Jin Mi loved each other. Even when he held her hands Run Yu never fought back when she pushed him away... He just sulked and accepted her response... According to the drama he was basically a homebody that worked and came back to his section of the palace... A game of Go, reading, playing the zither or looking at the flowers was his idea of fun. We never heard of him do anything else exciting... His innocence is part of what made him so lovable.
He was not exciting like Xu Feng who hung in the Demon Realm, went off to battle, joked with his lusty Uncle, had friends hanging around, etc. Run Yu would be boring for most average girls. But that was also part of his appeal... A man that was passionately faithful, goes to work and rushes home to be with the one he loves. And that is what he wants to do for all eternity. Isn't that what most women 'claim' they want?
Shattering the mirror and disintegrating the glass was Run Yu's way of releasing his anger but then getting it back under control. Being able to hide his emotions is how he learned to survive in the Heavenly Realm. That is why no one really knew him. Why Jin Mi could say that he did all of the horrible things that she thought he was capable of and it would be hard to argue against it. How could he say it was not true when she never really knew who he was. We saw what he became capable of doing... When a man has nothing to lose he will give everything... Something I was always taught... And Run Yu really did do anything and everything he could for Jin Mi...
Makes sense because in the Heavenly Realm the only way Run Yu would be able to survive is giving off the appearance of being the loner that wants nothing. It was the mask he learned to wear to stay out of trouble with the Empress and others. I really think that he had no idea how to take it off because of fear. Even as the Emperor he could not let his guard down.
I really have to thank you for sharing the excerpts from the book. I truly appreciate it as well as your views about it. The more I hear about Jin Mi from the novel the more I dislike the character... She just seems so petty... But 'Partying Jin Mi' makes sense with what we were saying about her finding Run Yu boring. And what mother would be dissatisfied with her son being an egret? So she wanted a flashy son like Phoenix? Not like she was the prettiest in her true form either! She is a snowflake... Literally! (ᗒᗜᗕ՛̵̖
As I said before, the show ends for me after the battle. The last two episodes made the Xu Feng/Jin Mi fans happy but it felt a bit flat IMO... As you said she seemed 'content' but not truly happy. When Run Yu and Jin Mi see each other at the lake I think it is the first time since the battle. Look how shocked she is when she sees Run Yu standing there... How he even has to pause when he hears her voice before turning... It would make me believe that he would come to see his nephew but avoided her and Xu Feng.
That is something sad that you pointed out... In Run Yu's mind Tang Yue is the child that he and Jin Mi were supposed to have... She even has her son dressed in white like his Uncle in the drama. And when Run Yu asks if she is happy after all these years, I believe it is because somewhere inside he hopes that she is not and misses him... Wants to come back to him... Maybe seeing that Jin Mi does not look as joyful as she should be with Xu Feng... But then he realizes that her happiness is her son... For Run Yu that is enough to make him back down. Just my perspective.
That scene of him alone in the throne room is too heartbreaking. First time I saw it I fell in tears asking myself what was wrong with me... It just seemed so unfair after all the character had been through... I know others cheered but no matter what I could not see Run Yu as 'evil'. He was a flawed and damaged person that did not know how to love, but desperately wanted someone to love him. In return he would love them unconditionally. And at the end he emotionally imprisons himself from ever loving again... It the saddest and most lonely existence... It just seemed so unfair... ·(˚ ˃̣̣̥᷄⌓˂̣̣̥᷅ )‧
The other day I heard a song by Zedd called "Happy Now" (Leon Lour Remix) and I wish I had better video editing skills because it would be awesome to take all of the scenes showing what Run Yu did for Jin Mi but her ending up with Xu Feng anyway... Is she happy now??? (。•́︿•̀。 Melanie Melanie 6 months ago (edited) I'm a romantic through and through, and so I am going to choose to believe that Run Yu, even when completely ticked off at Jin Mi, will never have the will power or the heart to treat her coldly for too long. Just like when she kneeled outside his palace and he tried to harden his heart to walk past her, he couldn't do it the minute she turned her sad, pitiful act on him. So while he would most definitely hang onto her more tightly than ever if she were to return to him, he would never treat her indifferently or coldly, because he treasured her too much to the point of obsession.
This brings me to my second point. Jin Mi really should have gone back with Run Yu at the beginning of the verbal standoff between Xu Feng and Run Yu to stop war from breaking out. This could have saved the thousands who had died while she went around uselessly screaming for everyone to stop fighting. Jin Mi really annoyed me in the latter parts of the drama because her self-centeredness was so obvious. She never stopped to think about the ramifications to Run Yu when she decided to run off with Yan You. Run Yu, other than manipulating her to kill Xu Feng (but I think she needed to absorb some of that blame for that, too, and not just dump the complete blame on Run Yu), had always treated her with nothing but love, patience, and respect. The wedding had already been announced, the date had been set. In fact, it was to be held on the very day she ran off. Did she even think about how embarrassing it would be for Run Yu? He was the Heavenly Emperor, and everyone in the six realms was aware of how madly in love he was with Jin Mi. Then she just eloped on the wedding day and married his younger brother instead! If Run Yu had been a jerk to her, then I could understand her actions, but this was a man who loved her desperately! How could she treat him that way?
While I don't think Jin Mi understood Run Yu completely because he kept a large part of himself closed off, I think she had no doubt about his absolute devotion to her. She knew she was his life. Look at the way she was furiously and fearlessly yelling at him during their big confrontation. Most people would have been scared that Run Yu would kill them after finding out about his ruthlessness toward enemies, but not Jin Mi. She was pretty confident Run Yu wouldn't harm her and just kept screaming at him, slinging hurtful words at him. Even if she didn't return that depth of feeling toward him, she needed to at least respect and treat that kind of devotion he had given her with care. She was so selfish that I just wished Kuang Lu had knocked some sense into her instead of politely asking Jin Mi to be nicer to Run Yu after he had given Jin Mi half of his life's cultivation. I wonder what Run Yu would have done had he caught Kuang Lu knocking some sense into Jin Mi. I would have cheered, but Run Yu might have another reaction. :P
So Run Yu was an introverted nerd. I love that! Nerds are sexy. Nerds usually end up in successful, highly specialized fields and become one of the top money earners in their generation. Look at Run Yu, who ended up with the loftiest positions of all - Heavenly Emperor. Plus, he was hot, hot, hot, and so faithful in love. If Jin Mi had been smarter with a long term vision, she would have grabbed Run Yu up in a second. Who cares if he's boring right now? Jin Mi could change that. She could coax him out of his shell. She wouldn't be able to transform him into a wild party animal (but who really wants a party animal for a husband, anyway?), but she could just encourage him to be a bit more outgoing. Go to the mortal realm together and play harmless pranks on grumpy, corrupt court officials. Or go swim naked in one of the celestial rivers, hoping no one would discover them. (Ha) I think Run Yu would play along, since Jin Mi's playfulness and excitement for life were what had drawn him to her in the first place. (By the way, this is why Run Yu would never fall in love with Kuang Lu. She was too much like Run Yu - quiet, calm, mature, reliable. She was everything Jin Mi was not. Run Yu did not want calm and quiet. He wanted a taste of that liveliness and laughter that Jin Mi brought with her) Too bad Jin Mi was short-sighted. She would have been the most cherished Heavenly Empress in history and would not have had to worry about her husband taking other consorts.
By the way, when you had mentioned about Run Yu possibly turning into a guy who would just imprison Jin Mi and ignore her emotional distress, it reminded me of Dian Xian's first novel, Peppermint Thistles Without White Flowers. I started reading that novel a few years back but never finished it because I got too busy. Let's just say Dian Xian's novels all have very controversial leading male characters. (Yes, I consider Run Yu a leading male character, even though some view him as the second male lead since he didn't end up with the female lead. But remember, the original novel was written from Jin Mi's point of view. She was the lead, and Heavy Sweetness Ash-like Frost was her story about her and the important men in her life - Run Yu and Xu Feng. So I feel that Run Yu and Xu Feng should share the title of male lead. But I digress...)
SPOILER ALERT!!! SPOILERS FOR PEPPERMINT THISTLES WITHOUT WHITE FLOWERS!!! In Peppermint Thistles, we again have a peerlessly beautiful female lead, this one more likable than Jin Mi, though. She was intelligent and witty. I can't remember the details, but she was adopted by the Prime Minister and his wife when she was a baby. She and the prime minister's son (her older adopted brother) fell in love, but because of her beauty and wit, the Crown Prince fell in love with her and asked for her hand in marriage. She married into the royal family at a young age, but the Crown Prince loved and respected her so much that he agreed to allow her time to accept him before demanding marital rights. Her older brother continued to visit her after she married, which the Crown Prince allowed since he thought they were biological siblings.
When the ruler of another kingdom (second male lead) demanded that she be exchanged for a peace treaty, the Crown Prince went to war for her honor. During his absence, she eloped with her brother (who was also painted as a very handsome, scholarly, sweet guy). During their time together on the run, she gave her virginity to her adopted brother. When the crown prince returned from war and discovered his beloved crown princess gone and that her "brother" was not her biological brother, he was livid, pretty much like how Run Yu was livid when he discovered Jin Mi had escaped with Yan You. With an entourage of assassins, he tracked the adulterous couple down, almost killed the brother had the female lead not threatened to kill herself, and dragged his crown princess back to the palace. He chained her to her room and raped her every day until she became pregnant. She was only able to escape after she faked her death. He was devastated by her "death" and never remarried.
Then, she eventually was captured by the second male lead (the ruler who wanted her in exchange for a peace treaty). I don't quite remember the details, but he fell in love with her, too. When she refused him, he drugged and raped her. She got pregnant a second time. I pretty much stopped reading afterward - no time and also I started to get a bit angry toward the male characters, even though every one of them loved the female lead to bits and were faithful with eyes for no other women. But rape... It was too much for me. I did hear from other readers that, in the end, she eventually fell in love with the Crown Prince (who became the emperor by the end of the novel) because he worked really hard to gain her love. The second male lead (the guy who drugged and raped her) raised his son alone and kept sending love letters to her, hoping she would return to him and their son. Her older brother ended up marrying some country's princess in order to borrow that country's army to take back the female lead. But the female lead, by that time, had already decided to stay with her first rapist... 1 Melanie Melanie 6 months ago (edited) That was a brilliant observation that Jin Mi dressed her son in white, like his Uncle Run Yu! You would think that she would dress Tang Yue in "more exciting" colors, like red or gold, like how Xu Feng used to dress, since she supposedly loved Xu Feng that much. Instead, she opted for the more subtle white color. I dare to hope that perhaps she did miss Run Yu and this was her way of keeping Run Yu close to her heart. I wonder if Xu Feng or Run Yu realized that Jin Mi was possibly dressing her kid up like the man whom she didn't marry... 1 KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago (edited) I agree with you that Run Yu would not have treated Jin Mi in such a brutal way... At least not for long... I have a dark sense of humour and for some reason the scene from "Silence" came to mind. It was my strange thoughts that if Jin Mi kept pushing him too far he would go completely mad and never let her go... Run Yu was already mentally and emotionally damaged and as we could see she was the one that could completely push him over the edge. But she was also the one that could completely bring him back from that as well... It only took a word or a glance from Jin Mi... Look how elated he was when she said she would marry him...
And I am glad that you also said about how embarrassing it would have been for The Emperor to have his wife run off on him on their wedding day! I said that and the response was, "Well he deserved that!" No... he did not... The only thing we ever saw was him treat her with kindness and love... In return she basically did not care about his feelings at all... That is what turned me from her character as the drama progressed. But how horrible to have your wedding to the same bride ruined TWICE and everyone in all of the realms knows this! The first time it was a coup... Others were in on the details so you can move pass it.... But can you imagine the snickering, gossip and stories that would emerge about Run Yu after the second failed wedding? The man that rules every kingdom but can't get his woman to stay with him. ( O _ O ) He becomes a joke to others! No one would be able to look at him without knowing this and the loss of respect would definitely be there... Really sad when you think about it and completely selfish of Jin Mi. She never seems to think about Run Yu at all or how her actions affect him! So nice to see that someone else shares this opinion! You have no idea how happy this makes me!
And yeah I am also a nerd loving person. I prefer the awkward shy smart guy over the brash jock... My hubby is a complete nerd in every sense and I love him to pieces. There is something really sexy about intelligence and people with amazing, but muted, skills that really pulls me in. Like Run Yu is awkward, inexperienced in love, an excellent swordsman but you would never know that unless he was pushed to violence, extremely intelligent and an amazing strategist. Unlike the peacock that was Xu Feng who displayed his abilities to everyone Run Yu always surprised others with what he could do...
Xu Feng was good with figuring out things based on information given but not actually one that appeared to be able to think on larger levels. He could make a plan to capture Qiong Qi but would he have been able to capture the hearts and minds of others in the realm to fight for a change of government? I don't think Xu Feng had the mental skills to be able to do that. Run Yu did... Would Xu Feng have been able to study the forbidden text and come to the same conclusions to save JIn Mi's life? Would he have known enough alchemy to be able to manipulate elixirs? Would he have been able to come up with the same strategies to take over, rule and maintain a kingdom? I don't think he could have... Or he would not have put as much effort into it IMO. Look at his behaviour as the head of the Demon Realm... And that did not last long. Run Yu still remained the Emperor and is carrying on while Xu Feng gave up his duties... (Which btw means he is still a part of the Demon Realm because he took the blood at the ceremony... Something I did not think about until I was typing this... How does that affect Tang Yue in the long run?)
And Jin Mi did bring Run Yu 'out of his shell' in a way. Xu Feng even says that Run Yu is 'one that lives in seclusion' and is 'oblivious of his surroundings' so he found it odd that Run Yu would be such a 'warm-hearted and considerate man' to take Jin Mi to the Mortal Realm, hide her scent and live with her. So this was something so out of character for Run Yu and JIn Mi was the stimulant for it... She made Run Yu want to try new things, experience a side of life that he had never thought was possible, and I agree that no matter how intellectual and stuffy Run Yu could be he would have been quite open to try a lot of things if Jin Mi initiated it... I love the scenarios that you presented and I could actually see all of them happening if she had given Run Yu a chance... ~sigh~
Also, I noticed something when I went to look back at the 'drinking scene' in the drama. I could be reading more into something than isn't really there, but do you remember after Xu Feng stops himself from seducing Jin Mi he runs out and has his conversation with Yan You... Well if you look Run Yu was not at the table when he steps out. Remember he was laying there sleep when Jin Mi took Xu Feng in. Did Run Yu see or hear his brother seducing Jin MI after he just told him that she was not one they could hope for? I know at this point JIn Mi is someone that Run Yu has a crush on but think about how that would affect you. Your brother says back off and then starts to seduce her... It would make me feel like he was lying so he could get her instead... Run Yu even tells Xu Feng that he overheard his conversation with Yan You... So what else did he hear?
The next morning Run Yu opens up to Jin Mi about the situation with his lineage and asks her about her parents. He is trying to find out if what Xu Feng is hinting at is actually true... That also makes me think that he heard or saw something between JIn Mi and Xu Feng... Just a strange observation....
As for Kuang Lu, you are correct... She is so much like Run Yu that they would be like magnets and repel from each other... In relationships you need similarities but also things that are opposite as well. Growth and change are needed or the union becomes stagnant. A puddle gets dirty and dries up eventually.... A river must flow to keep everything in it alive. That is why people think that soulmates are ones that are exactly like you when instead a soulmate is a person that comes in, shakes your life up, makes you look at who you truly are and brings so much energy to everything you do that you actually feel alive. In Run Yu's mind Jin Mi was his soulmate. The person that was born to be with him. The one that was meant to be connected to him for all eternity. He cannot accept anyone else... Sad that Jin Mi could not see the how valuable she was to him. KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago (edited) Now I am completely interested in Peppermint Thistles! Thank you for giving such a detailed and fascinating synopsis of it! Sounds like a good read! Would make an excellent drama with the right cast. It seems that Dian Xian likes the tragedy of brothers (related or not) fighting over one woman. I guess it is the fantasy of being so wanted that you can be the catalyst for war! Don't we all wish for that to be true! (ᗒᗜᗕ՛̵̖ But I agree that I see similar themes with 'Thistles' and 'Ashes' based on your wonderful description of the events in the book.
It appears that Dian Xian likes the 'older brother' to be the intelligent, gentlemanly one, and the main lead male to be more athletically virile. The older brother does not force his love on the person but waits for it to be given willingly. But the main male takes advantage of the woman he claims he loves. (As you pointed out in the book Xu Feng abuses Jin Mi's 'innocence' and sleeps with her... Why is that not seen as evil by others that love him so much? Hmmm...) It would be interesting to see the same cast from 'Ashes' as the characters from 'Thistles'! Now that would be exciting and a challenge to the actors! Obviously, Yan You would have to be one of the three men... But which one??? (๑˃́ꇴ˂̀๑
And we know that the screenwriters would have to change a lot... Even with some of the darkest and most twisted moments there still should be some things left to the imagination... I don't know if Dian Xian will trust any more screenwriters after all that happened with the Ashes sсript changes but I hope so. 'Thistles' sounds like it would be amazing! Thank you again for your synopsis and replies! So nice to be able to analyze and break these scenes down as well as hear about other stories as well. (●´ω`●ゞ Melanie
Фанатские дискуссии с просторов интернета -4 читать дальшеMelanie Melanie 6 months ago I think the production company was fiercely promoting Yang Zi and Deng Lun, and hence, a lot of their outtakes were released. At least Luo Yunxi had a few released behind the scenes clips, but they were mostly of him singing. The other actors had almost zero clips of their filming, which was a pity. In one outtake, Yang Zi was wrestling with Luo Yunxi, but then gave up and huffily walked away, declaring she didn't want to play anymore when he didn't budge in the pushing match and she realized she wasn't going to win. I thought they had a lot of chemistry there. In another outtake of Yang Zi, Luo Yunxi, and the actress playing Kuang Lu, Yang Zi made funny faces and then pretended to faint. Luo gallantly caught her and grinned at her. I heard that during that outtake scene, Yang Zi had nearly tripped on the hem of her long robe while busy swaggering comically. A keen-eyed fan caught this and noticed that Luo Yunxi immediately grasped her arm and kept her upright. Apparently, the gesture was subtle, but noticeable when pointed out on one youtube video. He was applauded for his quick reflexes and gentlemanly gesture. In a talk show, Luo Yunxi mentioned that he and Yang Zi fought (in a friendly manner) over the bathroom facilities a lot. There was only one bathroom on the set, and Yang Zi and Luo Yunxi coincidentally always needed to use the bathroom at the same time. There was a video shown on the talk show of Yang Zi teasing Luo Yunxi about the bathroom battles. 3 KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago I completely agree with you!!! I was just saying to my hubby (Yes I am married... Luo is safe from me... LOL) that one of the things that really set me off is Run Yu immediately thought of his brother when he found out that Jin Mi was his fiancee, but only pursued her when Kuang Lu encouraged him to not give up his wife! She reminded him that he has never fought for anything before and it was not fair to give his wife to Xu Feng too! Run Yu even says that he would make it up to Xu Feng but he had fallen in love and wanted Jin Mi. She is the first thing he ever really wanted to fight for! And he really does fight for her in every sense of the word!!!
But does Xu Feng think of his brother??? No... He immediately thought of himself!!! Tells Run Yu to his face that he won't give up Jin Mi!!! In his mind he gets everything he wants and that included her! That really made me dislike him so much because at first I liked his character too! After that he just seemed like a jerk! He never thought about 'how' it would hurt his brother and did not care if it did!! BOTH of us must be eating the same bitter pill Melanie!!! (>Ц<o)
But a lot of women like that type of guy. Xu Feng is what so many girls are taught to look for in life... Stay away from the 'weirdos' like Run Yu and strive for the rich, cool guys like Xu Feng.... (I cannot roll my eyes hard enough!) (e_e)
And you are correct that first loves are not always the best ones for you... Most Asian dramas will have you believe that, but it is really not true... I read somewhere that only 12% of people stay with their first loves OR their high school sweethearts... But half of them eventually end in divorce. Your mind is not the same when you are in your teens as it is when you are in your 20s, 30s and up... You either grow together or grow apart.
Run Yu IMO was definitely the better partner. A person like him has simple taste and tends to be focused. She would have been his world. As long as they could find fun activities to do together and gentle conversations they could have been happy. But what Jin Mi wanted was the brash, wild young guy that could (pardon the pun) break her out of her shell. It did not matter if he made her happy.... She wanted the excitement that he brought to her life instead of the peaceful security that Run Yu could bring to a relationship. Run Yu would be boring to her just playing a zither, a game of Go, or watching the stars...
One of the things I pointed out is that I noticed when Xu Feng was the Demon Lord he had the little hotties dancing for him and feeding him... We can only surmise that some 'may' have been for his 'ahem' personal pleasure. And the scene when he whispered Sui He's name I was really expecting him to open his eyes after JIn Mi left. When he did not I was like (@__@) "Oh myyyyyy?" So he was intimate with Sui He...
Something that Run Yu would never do! There was no one but Jin Mi for his heart, soul and body. As you pointed out Melanie, it is one of the things that made people love him! Run Yu's complete devotion to her. Reasons why Xu Feng probably needed to be alone and secluded in the mountain with Jin Mi.... If he was bored would he give in to temptation? If they were immortals together after 10, 000 years would Xu Feng have become a smut hound like his father? One can only guess...
And I know that many will disagree with this point of view but there were two times that Jin Mi fell silent... When Pu Chi asked if she loved Run Yu she fell silent... Everyone immediately said, "She did that because she does not love him..." But later they were shocked when she spoke about the 'two men in her heart'. The other time she fell silent is when Run Yu asked if she was happy... She falls silent and merely touches her son's face. He then says, "Of course you are..." But she did not say yes... I have wondered if that scene is to let us know that while she loves Xu Feng she may have some regrets about the situation with him? They are now trapped, alone, in a mountain cabin raising their son. It is almost like the way she was trapped in the Flora Realm in her little bubble. I know she says she misses the days when they first started but does she miss Run Yu in some way? It may be a stretch but that scene really made me question... It is hard to spend years with someone and walk away as if it did not happen.... 1 KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago (edited) I did not see some of the clips that you mentioned so I will look for them! I loved Luo and Yang's chemistry on screen... I guess it could be a sexual chemistry of sorts... Now I wonder if all of the tension was from them fighting over the bathroom! Waiting for the scene to end so they could see who would get to the facilities first! (^O^)
I really hope they pair again with a quality sсript as the main OTP. After seeing Luo in the love scene from "The Spring of My Life" he looks like he is a great kisser... I would love to see some of that magic between them! ( ๑ ᴖ ᴈ ᴖᴖ ᴑ ᴖ๑❣
I keep saying that whoever gets Luo Yunxi will be the luckiest girl on this planet or the most miserable because so many other women will want him too! I just hope that he is the faithful type... But he is a Leo male... Most of them have 'wandering eyes'. (¬ε¬ If only every man could be as devoted as Run Yu!!! (。♥‿♥。 LOL
Thank you again for telling me about these clips! I can't wait to watch them! Melanie Melanie 6 months ago Have you seen the two clips where Luo Yunxi was wearing a red t-shirt in some show, where the hosts tricked him into singing in a recording booth while they nosily rummaged through his bag? In the shorter of the two clips, at the very end, there was a behind the scenes part, where Luo Yunxi was signing his photographs for fans, and the host told Luo Yunxi to write on the photos, "To my little wives." Luo was completely flabbergasted and confused, and stuttered, "But I...I don't have a wife yet." Haha. He didn't understand that "little wives" was referring to his fans, who were referring to themselves as "His Majesty's Consorts" (a reference to Heaven Emperor Run Yu). He seems so innocent, I bet he hasn't had a girlfriend yet.
No, no. I don't think Luo Yunxi and Yang Zi's chemistry is due to their bathroom battles. Haha! I agree that Yang Zi and Luo Yunzi have this sort of inexplicable sexual tension on screen. Have you noticed that Run Yu's eyes brighten whenever Jin Mi is around, and his eyes follow her around discreetly? I applaud Luo Yunxi's acting on this part, because it's hard to act with just your eyes and to be that subtle, since Run Yu is not some character who would flamboyantly announce his love for Jin Mi. The tension intensified (in a good way) when he turned "bad," as I could literally feel the longing Run Yu had for Jin Mi vibrating around his very being. Her callous attitude toward him only made the tension more palpable and bittersweet. Yes, they would make a good romantic pair if they were to collaborate again, hopefully in another wuxia/xianxia drama, since those are my favorite.
I even think Yan You and Jin Mi had great chemistry as the comical/BFF pairing. Despite all Yan You's teasing and joking about wanting Jin Mi to elope with him, I think he really would elope with her if she actually were interested in him. He probably did love her in his own way, but he knew she had no romantic interest in him. Hence, he chose to reign in any budding feelings on his part to protect his own heart. Besides, if he really did elope with Jin Mi, Run Yu will just tear apart the realms looking for them, and Run Yu can be quite terrifying toward a love rival.
The two great on-screen kissers I have seen so far are Wallace Chung and Mark Chao. Really, Luo Yunxi is a great kisser? Will have to check out this kissing clip. Where is it?
I think someone mentioned in the comments section somewhere that Luo Yunxi said that he and Yang Zi had filmed quite a few kissing scenes as Jin Mi and Run Yu, but they were cut out of the final product. A pity... That one heartbreaking, one-sided kiss from Run Yu while Jin Mi was asleep spoke volumes. I wonder what a kissing scene between the two would have been like had Jin Mi been awake. 1 KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago The clip is on 火箭 RocketMoon!!! It's supposed to be awkwardly sexy because of the characters being intimate for the first time btw... youtu.be/zL6fuqcVFn8; Melanie Melanie 6 months ago I completely agree that Run Yu is the better choice. Xu Feng could be a fling but when it comes to settling down, Run Yu is the better pick. At least, Run Yu is more mature when handling love matters. When Xu Feng is angry, he lashes out at Jin Mi. (In the novel, Xu Feng even mentioned a few times that he wanted to kill Jin Mi. They toned that homicidal talk down in the drama to make him more socially acceptable.) Yes, Jin Mi killed him, so understandably, he was mad and hurt. But she had tried her best to make amends, including sacrificing her color sight and her life (she nearly melted) to bring him back from the dead. Even if he could not forget and forgive, he should have just had a mature discussion with her that he wanted her to stop bothering him in the Demon Realm and cut it off with her permanently. Instead, he decided to hurt himself, Sui He, and Jin Mi by using Sui He to torture Jin Mi emotionally. I don't like men who resort to making the woman they love jealous just because they are mad at her or because they want to "get back" at her. I find it immature, hurtful, and absolutely useless in solving any problems. Plus, despite Sui He being the "annoying third wheel," she did not deserve to be used that way and have her feelings toyed with. Despite her wrongdoings, Sui He truly loved Xu Feng and was more devoted to him than Jin Mi was. Yet, Xu Feng didn't care at all for her feelings, and this was when he thought Sui He was the one who had revived him! This was how he treated his savior, by using her to make the woman he really loved jealous!
Run Yu, on the other hand, would have never resorted to such immature tactics. He never used Kuang Lu (since she was always conveniently trailing after him) to make Jin Mi jealous. He could have, but he chose not to, because he respected Kuang Lu, himself, and Jin Mi. Or he could have deliberately taken some consorts to see if he could get some reaction out of Jin Mi. Yet, he never did, because he would never treat his love for Jin Mi so carelessly.
You know, maybe if Run Yu did start paying attention to other women, Jin Mi might wake up and actually see him. Jin Mi seemed like the sort who thought the grass was always greener on the other side of the fence. When she had Xu Feng's heart, she didn't trust him enough to investigate thoroughly before stabbing him. When Xu Feng no longer wanted her, she moved heaven and earth to get him to love her again, regardless of whom she had to hurt and step on (Run Yu). Perhaps, if she no longer held Run Yu's heart, she would realize what she was losing and chase after Run Yu.
I LOVE your analysis of the two moments Jin Mi was silent. I could not agree more! Jin Mi had always been very vocal about her love for Xu Feng without caring whom she would hurt with her declarations of love for Xu Feng, So why did she fall silent? It certainly wouldn't be because she was trying to spare Run Yu's feelings, since she never cared about hurting him before. So the only explanation would be that she did love Run Yu. After all, I did detect some gloating when she was around Kuang Lu, because she enjoyed being Run Yu's world. She knew very well how much she meant to Run Yu and used his love for her to her advantage, despite that accusation she screamed at him about him not loving her.
One other moment I would like to mention was during the conversation among Xu Feng, Jin Mi, and Run Yu right before all the fighting broke out during the Heaven-Demon War. When Run Yu told Jin Mi that he had only threatened the Floral Realm's safety to coax her to return to him and that if she was willing to come back to him, everything was negotiable, she hesitated. That hesitation was subtle but spoke volumes. I really think she might have run back to Run Yu had Xu Feng not held onto her hand at that moment and started to mock Run Yu for not being able to do anything if he (Xu Feng) refused to let go of Jin Mi. (I almost expected Xu Feng to stick his tongue out at Run Yu right after making that statement.) You could argue that even if Jin Mi had run back to Run Yu, it would be because she was thinking of the Floral Realm's safety. However, I disagree. She knew Run Yu would not truly kill anyone from the Floral Realm, because doing so would sever ties between him and Jin Mi, and he wouldn't risk that. Therefore, that brief moment of hesitation, I think, was because she was still undecided between the two men. Remember, for her, the grass was always greener on the other side of the fence? Well, now that she had Xu Feng's forgiveness, maybe she was missing Run Yu now... You never know with Jin Mi... I think if both men had been amenable to a reverse harem, Jin Mi would have wanted both Run Yu and Xu Feng. But unfortunately for Jin Mi, both guys would rather kill each other first than share her. :P 1 KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago (edited) "His Majesty's Consorts"!!! I love it! (^O^)
I am quite sure that he has had girlfriends but probably prefers to keep that side of his personal life... well... personal. I don't blame him.... If his fans are harassing his assistant can you imagine what they would do to his girlfriend! (@_@) I want him to shock the world and announce that he is marrying his assistant Xiao Zu (I don't know Piglet's real name...) That will make all of the fans faint! jk... sort of (ᗒᗜᗕ՛̵̖
Luo Yunxi being able to act with his eyes, small twitches and even subtle movements is what impressed me so much. To be able to do that is not as easy as it looks especially in front of cameras and surrounded with people shouting directions... Little things like that is what made Run Yu stand out so much more than the other actors IMO. You could feel so much with just a look... Words were not necessary. Not that the other actors were not excellent, but Luo's face is so full of expression as Run Yu that he could do an entire scene without saying a word and you would know exactly what he was feeling.
I loved Yan You/ Pu Chi!!! Adonis really needs more work after this show!!! On one of the boards there were 4 teams. Team Night Immortal, Team Phoenix, Team White Teeth and Team Neutral... You knew immediately who White Teeth was! °₊·ˈ∗(( ॣ>̶᷇ᗢ<̶᷆ ॣ)∗ˈ‧
So many loved Pu Chi! And I loved that they had him as Jin Mi's friend! And I liked that you could tell he really liked her but decided to stay platonic... Every woman needs a friend like Pu Chi! I just thought it was sad how Run Yu actually took the torture from the Empress to save Yan You, and even took the time to heal him after the Sui He attack, but Yan You still betrayed him in the end by helping Jin Mi return to Xu Feng... Yan You turned out to be like everyone else in poor Run Yu's life despite all that he did for him... If Run Yu had let Yan You die he never would have been there to betray him. It seems like all of the people he fought to save were the ones that betrayed him in the end. (。•́︿•̀。
Of course Luo as 'Emperor Pu Chi' was amazing! Impressive impersonation is an understatement! He should win an award just for that scene! (^O^) As soon as he walked up I actually blurted out loud, "Oh dear Lord! That is Pu Chi!" And fell out laughing!!! I would love to see Adonis and Yang Zi together again as well... If Luo is also in the cast it will be gold!
As for the kiss... I actually think it is good that a mutual kiss between them was cut... Why... Because it gave more to the feeling of desperation that Run Yu was experiencing. It also let us know that Jin Mi was not sexually interested in him... If they were kissing together I think it would have cheapened her even more... Bad enough to sleep with his brother but to turn around and kiss Run Yu would have made her seem so much worse... As much as I wanted to see a kiss with them it was better the way they did it. As you said... The 'sad kiss' spoke volumes.... I actually could feel tears in my eyes the first time I watched it just thinking, "How sad and yet twistedly beautiful..."
And Xianxia/Wuxia are also my favorite genres in Chinese dramas... Historical and Modern have to really be good (like Secret of the Three Kingdoms) to get me to watch them all the way through. Or on the dark side like "Bloody Romance". ( I don't even know what to think after seeing that! ║ * ರ Ĺ̯ ರ * ║ )
I don't want Luo to get typecast but I definitely want to see him play a dark or morally ambiguous character again... He really does better at that compared to the lighter 'good" characters that he has played in the past that just get grumpy from time to time... (⌒▽⌒) Melanie Melanie 6 months ago You think Luo Yunxi has had girlfriends? Oh... Maybe I am the one who is too innocent... Ha.
Eh? His fans are harassing his assistant? Who's his assistant and why are they harassing her?
On multiple interviews, Luo Yunxi said he would like to play an assassin or a psychiatric patient. 2 Melanie Melanie 6 months ago Also, have you seen the outtake clip when Yan You accompanied Jin Mi to Serpent Mountain? They used real snakes and Yang Zi freaked out. (I would, too!) It was hilarious how Yang Zi kept screeching and used Adonis (is that his name?) as her protection shield. Haha. I laugh, because I am a wimp and freak out a lot, too, over the tiniest creepy crawlies and push men in front of me, too. 2 Melanie Melanie 6 months ago I forgot to ask... Which of the teams had the most supporters? And was there really anyone on Team Neutral? It's hard to remain neutral!
By the way, I want to correct myself. His fans refer to themselves as "His Majesty's Celestial Consorts" (since 天妃 means heaven or celestial consort). 1 KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago (edited) You have no idea how much I REALLY love this conversation!!!
Love your points about Xu Feng using jealousy to hurt Jin Mi! That is so true! And in many ways he also knew that Sui He was jealous of Jin Mi, shrugged it off and appeared to silently laugh at how much she wanted him. Xu Feng is so used to 'all the ladies' loving him so I think that is what he expects. I mean who would NOT love the great Xu Feng! ( e_e ) I hate people that use emotional control to take advantage of others!
So happy that you are telling me the differences with the book.. Xu Feng just seems like such a twat... I wanted to read it but the drama has ruined me! I think I will wind up hating Xu Feng even more if I dive into the novel! LOL
I can imagine him saying he wants to kill her... Xu Feng liked how carefree she was but he also wanted to control her... I still think that part of the attraction to Jin MI was feeling like he could not have her... She was trapped in the Flora Realm... Fight to take her out. She was supposed to marry his brother... Fight to make her his... His parents are against them being together... Fight to defy them. She pulled from him when her parents were killed... Fight to claim her at the wedding. She is begging forgiveness... Torture her, then fight to make her his when he realizes he could lose her again... So it makes you question how happy is he now that Xu Feng has her? Or is the child the main thing holding them together?
Run Yu did not fight for her because he wanted 'merely' to possess her. In his mind she was his destined soulmate. The only person that stirred feelings of intimate love within him. The person that was to be his wife. Even in the scene above he is really saying he is scared... He doesn't want to lock her up but he is too afraid to let her go. He doesn't want her because he can't have her, but because he wants Jin Mi to want him as much as he wants her. He wants her to love him and he does not know how to do that.
If he only wanted to possess her why would he let her roam to his brother in the Demon Realm KNOWING that she is doing this to get Xu Feng to love her again. What does Run Yu do? He bites down and takes the emotional pain, watching her run to another man, in hopes that she will eventually get over Xu Feng and come to him. But the focus is on the two times that Run Yu 'locked her up' and so many see that as evil... He was growing tired of her hurting herself and most of all hurting him... He already gave her half his life how much more could he give?!?!? It was more obsession for Run Yu rather than possession IMO...
That is the difference... Run Yu let her go in hopes that she would come to him if he was good to her... Xu Feng on the other hand just assumed that she would always love him and no one else... Xu Feng never thought to let her go to his brother and see if she would come to a realization that she really loved him..... He had to possess Jin Mi, jump after her to the Mortal Realm and bed her to make her his... Remember Run Yu said he would go into the Mortal Realm with Jin Mi so they could strengthen their bond... Well Xu Feng and Moon Immortal botched that up! (<_< So even Run Yu knew that bonding in the Mortal Realm would make a difference..... Makes you question what would have happened if Run Yu went in with her instead of Xu Feng.
I still think that Jin Mi loved Run Yu but Xu Feng was more exciting... And after being trapped in the Flora Realm she wanted something fun and crazy to happen... Remember when she met Liu Ying and she hurried to see the confrontation between her and Xu Feng... She wanted trouble, mischief and mayhem... Run Yu was too passive in the beginning to give that to Jin Mi.
Great observation about the scene before the battle... I never thought of that but she did hesitate... Most will say it is because she was thinking about the people of the Flora Realm but she knew Run Yu. I think she would have gone with him to calm him down... Make sure that everyone was fine... But then she would have run back to Xu Feng if Run Yu did not strangle her first! (^O^) Sorry, but the man was really getting tired of her crap and I don't blame him....
And Xu Feng's teasing attitude towards Run Yu really set me off!!! Even Jin Mi looked at him like, ' Um... I don't think you want to do that!' (((╹д╹)) LOL During the battle when Xu Feng was punched I am sorry to admit that I cheered... He deserved it... That smug and pompous look needed to be knocked off his face!
This is the reason that for me the show ends after the battle... The last two episodes are for Xu Feng-Jin Mi fans IMO. (But I sincerely admire the acting in them) I would prefer for the show to end after the battle because it becomes a moral lesson... ALL of the characters were flawed. ALL of them did some of the most messed up things to each other... In the end Jin Mi redeemed herself... Run Yu and Xu Feng then had all of eternity (or however long) to think about what they did... For me, that was the perfect ending... In the end NO ONE should have won. No one should have been happy with their choices... And I still would have understood everything that Run Yu did... Not saying it was right... Just saying I could understand... ˉ̶( ´͈ ᗨ `͈ ) ˉ̶ KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago On 火箭 RocketMoon (She is the greatest!) there are several clips of him and his personal assistant Xiao Zhu (as Luo calls her). I absolutely love the two of them together! She was even in one of the clips from the 'Heavy Sweetness...' outtakes. (Short, chubby woman with long braids in those clips). She was threatened by fans. As someone was kind enough to explain to me, she paused her blog because people said they would stop being Luo's fans if she continued to blog about the things they did together. Complete insane jealousy... I really do not understand that at all... I am happy to see that they have so much fun!
I personally love seeing them together and I love how he lights up during their interactions. It is more of a sister-brother-best friend type of connection but I don't need to understand a word to find myself laughing especially when she says something and Luo is like "Shenme?" and just looks at her in confusion! I think she is also the one that tends to film him in some of his personal clips.
Here is one of their clips... They are like a comedy team IMO... I also love the one when she grabs him and he lets out a squeal! LOL
www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGEZXxgqnCQ; 1 KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago (edited) I never really took count but it seemed that there were more people defending and cheering for Xu Feng and saying Jin Mi was merely a victim. One even said that Run Yu's kiss was like rape! (@_@) I was like... In the character's mind that is his fiancee... He is in love and I am sure that he saw nothing wrong with kissing her. It is not rape to kiss your fiancee. There were a few of us on Team Night immortal however that understood his motives and motivations even if we knew they were not the best way to go about them.
The biggest argument was that she would not kiss him when she was awake so it was 'forced affection'. And of course some asked what would I do if that happened to me. If it was my fiancee I would probably ask him why he waited until I was sleep? I would ask what motivated him to do something like that. I would want to know what is going through his mind... Problem is that unlike Jin Mi I would care... Was it inappropriate??? Yes... Was is likened to rape... IMO No...
Team White Teeth were some of the best people! In the middle of a heated argument about Phoenix and Night Immortal they would peek in with "Did anyone see how beautiful Pu Chi's smile was in this episode?" ٩̋(๑˃́ꇴ˂̀๑ (This was mostly on a drama board btw... Not mentioning names because there are those that watch for those things... (O__O) LOL )
I did see that clip with Adonis Liao (Pu Chi) and Yang Zi!! I actually avoided a lot of the behind the scenes clips because I did not want to be spoiled while watching the drama... But now I am having fun looking through them! And I have now seen the ones that you were talking about. Funny how Yang Zi kept doing things and you could see Luo trying to remain focused. Her and Deng Lun were so fun to watch behind the scenes... I wish that had come across more on camera...
I actually like snakes and creepy things... But I have always been odd like that... The snakes would not have bothered me at all... They probably would have to stop me from playing with them! But being scared would be a great excuse to clutch onto Adonis! (^O^)
Luo as an assassin or mental patient would be amazing! Even better... a serial killer... (^o^)b I really like him with a darker tone. When he 'snapped' as Run Yu it made the character shine! It took dark sexiness to another level! LOL
Even in "Fox In the Screen" he was moody and sarcastic but still the hero. I want to see him really play a true villain! After seeing him as Emperor Pu Chi I also want to see him in a comedy as well... A real Rom-Com with a decent sсript... Something like the KDrama "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim" or something with twisted humour... At this point it will be hard to top Run Yu so he needs to challenge himself to roles that others might shy away from, as long as it has an incredible sсript and great directors! Melanie Melanie 6 months ago Ha! If Jin Mi did go back to the Heaven Realm with Run Yu to calm him down, I am sure she won't be able to easily get out again this time. It would have been fun to watch their fights. I think I must have weird taste, because toward the end, when Run Yu finally cracked and started to manhandle Jin Mi, I thought he appeared even more attractive than when he was Little Fish Immortal. His darker side was so sexy and manly, and Run Yu didn't even need to wear black and have little demonesses gyrating around him, like Xu Feng did, to appear hot. For me, suddenly the gentlemanly Run Yu was gone, replaced by a very intensely sizzling man. If Jin Mi wanted excitement and passion, well, I think she would have found it if she had bothered to stay long enough with Run Yu to find out. Their chemistry after Run Yu had dragged her into her chamber and had literally thrown her onto the bed was so intense. I liked his menacing gaze as he hovered over her; it was like he couldn't decide whether he wanted to strangle her or lean down closer to steal a kiss. And Jin Mi's shocked gaze with her nearly bulging eyes was priceless. She was probably thinking, "What the... Huh?"
It was a long time ago since I had read the novel, but I remember the novel being quite funny, because it was written from Jin Mi's point of view, so the reader could hear her thoughts. Her thoughts were so selfish and blunt that they were funny. When Run Yu broke her out of the bubble in the Floral Realm, Jin Mi thought, "Wow, Little Fish Immortal is quite a powerful deity!" You could hear the gears turning in her mind about how to use his powers. On the other hand, Jin Mi's comment about Run Yu's powers in the drama seemed more like a polite compliment. I think it was deliberate to make Jin Mi appear more likable.
Interestingly, in the novel, Jin Mi actually preferred Run Yu when she still had the Passionless Pill inside her. She repeatedly thought how lucky she was to be engaged to Run Yu instead of to Xu Feng. In her mind, she thought Run Yu was calm, elegant, understated, whereas Xu Feng was garish and overbearing. Then, suddenly, after she spit out the pill, she was insanely in love with Xu Feng, and I was flabbergasted.
Keep in mind that the novel was written from Jin Mi's point of view, so the readers could only see aspects of Run Yu and Xu Feng that Jin Mi saw. In the novel, I never could get a good grasp of Run Yu's character, since Jin Mi herself didn't understand him. He was elegant, gentlemanly, but Jin Mi (and the readers) never knew about his manipulation until the very end. Xu Feng somehow seemed really bad tempered in the novel, because from Jin Mi's point of view, he kept patronizing her with his arrogance.
Wow, I can't believe Luo Yunxi's assistant was threatened. She seems so nice. But I found this clip on bilibili.com (see below) and can understand why some more fanatic fans would be jealous of her. I saw a longer version of the clip somewhere before and didn't realize this was his assistant. In the longer clip, Luo Yunxi mentioned that his assistant accompanied him on many long nights, when he had to stay up and memorize his lines during the filming of Ashes of Love. She read the lines opposite his in the sсript so that he could practice. They seem really close. In the longer clip I saw, the host wanted to know if they also acted out the scenes, rather than just recite the lines. Luo said yes, sometimes. If I recall correctly, the host wanted Luo to act out a romantic, but intense type of scene. Luo Yunxi picked the "trap a woman against the wall" scene and used his assistant as his acting partner. Wow, she looked so embarrassed! Haha!
By the way, have you seen this advertisement Luo Yunxi filmed for women's cosmetics? It's really sexy and well done.
www.bilibili.com/video/av31573023?p=2; 2 KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago You and I can be weird together because angry Run Yu was SO sexy! I don't know if you will get the 'Silence of the Lambs' reference, but I joked that if Jin Mi went back with Run Yu he would suddenly become the "It puts the lotion in the basket.." guy! (*≧▽≦ She would never get out of the Heavenly Realm ever again! If she tried I would be afraid that he might accidentally kill her.
During the argument when he started explaining his side, and telling her that he saw her and his brother being intimate, did you see that insane look?!?!? Sorry but that was brimming with angry passion! Those eyes bulging like he could still see it in front of him. Everything that Run Yu had buried finally exploding! THAT was twistedly sexy! When he threw her on the bed with that crazed look on his face I was like, "Someone please pass me an inhaler!" If he was looking at me like that I would have melted! (♥ω♥ )
Even that gentle placement of her feet and the hair toss... ~fans self~ When Run Yu walked out between the soldiers for the battle I was like, "That is an Emperor!" He was in control while still being out of control! (Don't know if that makes sense... LOL) Run Yu was not going to walk away. Dark determination... Sexy af!!! I loved every moment of that darkness... (Applause to Luo Yunxi!)
Run Yu finally let down his guard and that is what he should have done years before! I think if he had gone off on her earlier maybe she could have respected him more... He hid so much from Jin Mi, including his abuse... I am sure that she never found out about that part of his history... I still think that Jin Mi was too selfish to really care about anyone but herself. Yet I wonder if she had received an energy slap from him earlier, with Run Yu just going off and yelling out what he was feeling, would she have really understood what he was going through or dismissed it? He tried so hard to give the appearance of being perfect that Jin Mi really did not seem to understand the depth of what he was going through... She knew he loved her, but how much did she really know Run Yu when you think about it? The one time he did try to open up to her after his mother died she started to talk about Rou Rou... (e_e)
Jin Mi never took a moment to think that he was in emotional pain... But can you completely blame her? (Yes... I am actually standing up for Jin Mi on something) Run Yu gave the appearance of someone that was a kicking post. Do whatever you want to him and he will still be standing there waiting patiently... The one time he tried to walk pass her she grabbed him and knew he would melt for her... He should have snatched his robe and walked away but his heart would not let him... Sounds crazy, but people treating others the way Jin Mi and Xu Feng behaved towards Run Yu is why school shootings happen... A person can take so much before they break....
But did you notice another thing that really showed that in some ways she did love Run Yu was when she pulled out the dragon scale... She was actually carrying it on her person! That really surprised me that she was still walking around with it after all that time. And even had it stored next to her heart. Are we to believe that she always carried it or did she start carrying it when she decided to marry him? I would not carry something that was given to me by someone that I did not care about...
Thank you again for explaining the differences in the novel. I really appreciate that! If she liked Run Yu more with the pill in the drama it would have upset a lot of people that wanted the 'soulmate, fairy tale' love that is usually pushed. If they had her in preference for Run Yu and then without pill mad for Xu Feng I probably would have stopped watching... For me it would not make sense... Especially, since Xu Feng really comes off as a jerk even in the drama version!
I am glad they fleshed the characters out more compared to the book version. The characters sound so much worse than their tele counterparts.(・∀・)The screen writers made sure to push that she loved Xu Feng and only Xu Feng even when she was with Run Yu. I think that is why several people made negative comments about the 'one in your heart and one that is far away' statement at the end. It did not make sense for many that she had any love for Run Yu. But him walking away slowly from her with the smile wiped off of his face after he saw her at the lake was so sad... And the lonely throne scene actually made me cry.... It felt so unfair after all that he had done and it was for her... Instead of being triumphant he was completely defeated... You can imagine that he will never smile again for all of eternity... Too sad... KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago I have seen both of the clips that you shared! Thank you so much for pointing them out again to me! On RocketMoon the entire clip is there when Luo does the Kabe-don on her! My heart would have popped out of my chest! (๑♡⌓♡๑ His poor assistant looks so shy and embarrassed when he calls her over! She seems like such a nice person and he really lights up when she is around. You can tell he has fun with her. She literally falls to the floor laughing when Luo leans in! She must have saved a country in another life to be so lucky... I am happy for her!
And the lipstick ad is so cute! I have seen it before but I love it!
I know there are some fans that have voiced that they don't want him to start pushing products and doing things like this but he has to take the jobs he likes while he is in demand. I don't blame him... I just hope that he can stay the same sweet and bubbly person that he appears to be... I would not want the popularity to change him...
Now that he has crossed over to being known in America (His face in Times Square! YAY for him!) who knows if that will take him further... Why I always want talented people like him to get the recognition they deserve but also become afraid of them becoming so popular that they are no longer the person I admire... Keeping fingers crossed that Luo Yunxi can have fame and still be grounded.... x(__ __)x Melanie Melanie 6 months ago (edited) Actually, I've never seen Silence of the Lambs. I know, I know, everyone has watched it, but I'm a scaredy bear. Anyway, could you explain the lotion in the basket reference and what it has to do with Jin Mi returning to Run Yu?
Yes, yes, that insane look on Run Yu's face when he forced Jin Mi down onto the bed was menacing, yet very sexy! Isn't it weird that I find Run Yu's dark and domineering aspect very exciting? I mean, Little Fish Immortal was very handsome and gentlemanly, but I can see why Jin Mi was bored by him. Not that I don't love Little Fish Immortal, but after I realized that Run Yu can be so deliciously dangerous when provoked, I found him infinitely more attractive and desirable. He could be the perfect gentleman in public but quite diabolical behind closed doors. Oh, wait, Run Yu didn't bother to close the bedroom door when he threw Jin Mi on the bed. Haha.
There was another prior incident when Run Yu revealed that spark of danger beneath the veneer of the soft-spoken scholar - when he threw that bolt of energy at the mirror in his room and scared away the dream deer when he saw Jin Mi and Xu Feng being intimate in the dream bubble. I was so excited to see that scene...but then he went back to his mild mannered self. I thought, what the heck? But I should have realized that he wouldn't let such a betrayal slide. Even after realizing that Jin Mi had cheated on him, I always got the sense that he blamed Xu Feng more than Jin Mi. But after re-watching parts of the drama, I actually think Run Yu did punish Jin Mi for her betrayal in a very ingenious fashion. He took advantage of the Water God's death and manipulated Jin Mi into believing that Xu Feng had killed her father. So he steered one cheater into killing the other cheater. It was quite a brilliant move. It's always simpler to keep your hands clean and borrow someone else's knife to kill the opponent. I think such intelligence is quite sexy in a character. Unfortunately, Run Yu is the anti-hero in the drama and hence his actions are viewed as evil.
I do think that if Run Yu had blown up at Jin Mi earlier instead of holding all his emotions in, she might have been more interested in him. I don't know if she would be more sympathetic, since she's a very self-serving character, but showing his wild side would certainly catch her attention.
I know! When Jin Mi pulled out Run Yu's dragon scale and threw it away, the first thing I thought was that she had been carrying it around on her person all this time! Another moment when she showed that she cherished the dragon scale was in the Mortal Realm, when Xu Feng (as King Yi) grabbed the dragon scale out of her hands when she was deep in thought, and she immediately anxiously tried to retrieve it from him. Xu Feng asked Jin Mi to gift him the dragon scale, but she absolutely refused and was quite relieved when he returned the scale to her. Therefore, I definitely think Jin Mi loved Run Yu, probably not as much as she loved Xu Feng, because Run Yu was less fun and less exciting to be with. Even Yan You joked that Run Yu didn't know how to romance Jin Mi, because he only had one trick - admire the flowers. Maybe Run Yu should have taken Yan You up on his offer to teach Run Yu some more tricks to court Jin Mi. :P
That ending scene with Run Yu slowly walking away from Jin Mi and her son was heartbreaking. I think she was content at the end, but she didn't strike me as deliriously happy, which was what I had expected given that she had fought so hard to be with Xu Feng. You don't fight so hard to be with someone just so you could be content. Eh. And if you watch that ending scene between her and Run Yu closely, she did stare after him a bit wistfully as he walked away. I think that scene was extremely well done in that Run Yu did not look back as he walked away. In a way, he was resigned to his lonely existence, so why torture himself by glancing back at Jin Mi?
There are a few differences between the novel and drama ending that I find interesting. In the drama, I think they made Jin Mi more mature at the very end, as she seemed more settled in and maternal. In the novel, Jin Mi continued to "party" with the Moon God by going out to watch operas in the mortal realm or going up to the Heaven Realm to hang out with him. She also was not keen on becoming a mother in the novel and she and Xu Feng had their son after thousands of years of marriage (so she was an immortal at the end of the novel), not after one mortal year as stated in the drama. After she had given birth, she was disappointed that her son was only an egret. She thought an egret was too commonplace. She lamented why her son couldn't have a flashier true form. (I find her attitude horrible. She was complaining that her son was too ordinary for her liking.) This always made me wonder why she didn't just have a son with Run Yu. Their dragon son would certainly be flashy and cause lots of waves.
Фанатские дискуссии с просторов интернета -3 читать дальше4 KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago Excellent points Melanie! I have watched the series twice and a few pivotal scenes multiple times. Re-watching it makes you see the behaviours with more clarity. Especially seeing more into Jin Mi's manipulation tactics... One of the main things I noticed during the second viewing, in the scene right before she meets Run Yu, Moon Immortal is explaining what love is to her... He shows her a book with various 'positions' in it and she tosses it aside... She then asks if love between a man and woman can help with 'magical prowess'. When he says 'Yes" she is suddenly interested!
In the next scene she meets Run Yu. She commented that he looked lonely... Then gives him the string. So she learns right before about relations leading to more prowess and then seems interested in the first male she sees right afterwards.... At first I really thought it was an innocent gesture, but now after seeing the entire drama again I question how innocent it was. I am quite sure she studied more of Moon Immortal's collection over time while staying with Xu Feng.
I don't think people really understood how much it meant when Jin Mi mistook Run Yu for a fish, and called him 'Fish Fairy'. Remember later he tells Kuang Lu that all he wanted to be was a carp... He just wanted to be accepted and loved instead of mistreated and bullied... Jin Mi seeing him as a fish instead of what he was, a dragon, triggered something in the subconscious that made Run Yu feel he was being accepted, albeit in a twisted way, to what he wanted to be. He did not have his memories at that time but it had to have made him feel warm inside. Jin Mi never understood how much that affected him.
Another mistake Run Yu made was hiding that side of himself and, as far as we know, never telling her about his history. I would like to believe that 'maybe' if Jin Mi knew the damage of his youth she would have thought twice about hurting him as badly as she did... I really want to believe that....
And I agree with you Melanie that maybe saying a 'sexless marriage' is not the right term. I think Run Yu wanted to be with her. The night Run Yu made a move when they were in his room he would have been quite happy to take his brother's 'sloppy seconds'... ~cringe~ The reason I said that he was willing to be sexless is because during the confrontation after Sui He's visit he said Jin Mi did not even have to like him, she could hate him, as long as she did not leave him. Run Yu did not seem to be one that would rape (Was also VERY happy that the scene afterwards did not lead to that... It would have been so out of character...). He would have been patient and waited... Thousands of years if he had to until she eventually gave in to his advances or approached him herself. So you are correct that sexless is not what he would have wanted... But you cannot expect sex from someone that hates you....
Oh and I agree with you about the way Jin Mi paraded around Kuang Lu. I also felt that in a way she was gloating a bit in front of her. Remember her saying anyone can be the Heavenly Empress before the second wedding KNOWING that Kuang Lu did not even have a chance. I actually raised my eyebrow when she said that like, " WOW! Rub that salt in the wound a little harder will you?" Despite knowing how Kuang Lu felt, Jin Mi still stayed around, and she knew how much it hurt KL to see Run Yu giving his all for Jin Mi, but she did not care... Things like that are what turned me from liking Jin Mi...
But may I make a comment on that 'energy slap' that Run Yu gave Jin Mi. I felt so twistedly happy when he did that. (^▽^ (The hair flip was a nice touch! (ᗒᗊᗕb ) I know people are horrified by my reaction but I actually said, "FINALLY! I knew she was going to push him too far!!" So many thought that made him evil but I understood... How much can one take... And the main thing that I hated was that right before that she told him that he did not 'deserve to be loved'. (Going by the translation... If that is not the correct phrasing please let me know.) I feel like such a weirdo but I actually cried when she said that to him.... I NEVER cry on dramas but that made me fall to pieces...
After all that he had done, all that he sacrificed, what he had become... And all of it for her. That is the worst thing you can tell a victim of abuse and neglect... They already feel that they don't deserve to be loved, but for her to say that directly to him was too much... No one should ever hear that... And I know that she is supposed to be unaware of his history but it was still horrible for Jin Mi to say... After that I was like, "She can die now..." ( ≧∀≦ ) LOL
So glad to see that others did not see Jin Mi as the 'helpless victim'. She knew a lot of what she was doing... Unfortunately, the Heavenly Empress had a good eye but no one else did... 2 Melanie Melanie 6 months ago (edited) Kuroi, I love these discussions! I feel like finally I have found some people who are like-minded.
Really?! You never felt the love between Jin Mi and Xu Feng? I didn't, either, not in the novel or in the drama! I thought I was weird, since people kept raving about this onscreen pair. In the novel, I was bewildered when Xu Feng suddenly started declaring his love for Jin Mi. The only reason I could come up with was that he was in lust with her beauty, which apparently was so peerless that women fell in love with her when she was disguised as a young male, and men salivated after her when she was back in her true form as a young woman. In the drama, the sсript tried to fix this oversight by sticking Jin Mi's mortal trial in the middle of the sequence of events, instead of having it occur AFTER Jin Mi and Xu Feng were already married. Supposedly, Jin Mi and Xu Feng's experiences in the mortal world and her cracked Passionless Pill bonded the two together. Upon her return to the Heaven Realm, she started having second thoughts about her engagement to Run Yu. The explanation was plausible, but like you, I just didn't FEEL the love between them. Personally, I thought Yang Zi and Deng Lun had more chemistry off screen in the behind the scene clips than in the actual drama. Like you said, it was probably because Deng Lun's character was not fleshed out enough.
In comparison, I completely understood why Run Yu fell in love with Jin Mi, because he was such a well developed character. (You could tell that the author Dian Xian loved Run Yu, as mentioned in the webcast with Luo Yunxi, since he had the greatest character development in the sсript. I heard that Dian Xian was consulted during the sсript writing process.)
Logically, I agree that Jin Mi should end up with Xu Feng. They are both selfish characters and care nothing about how their actions affect others. However, I just pity Run Yu so much that I wish Jin Mi had eventually learned to love him. Yes, she was toxic for him and she didn't deserve his devotion, but he would have been so happy had she reserved a small spot in her heart for him. By the end of the drama, he wasn't even asking for scraps of love from her. He just wanted her to stay by his side, even if she hated him. That was just so depressing. I honestly don't understand how she wasn't even moved just a bit. Most women would have melted into a puddle in the face of his undying devotion and steadfast love. When I saw Run Yu beg Jin Mi like that during the confrontation, clutching onto her as if his life revolved around her every breath, it just made me wish she would just give him a break and reciprocate just a little bit of that love. Maybe I'll find time to write a short fanfic with an altered ending, just so poor Run Yu could finally find happiness with his Mi Er.
By the way, I, too, was horrified by the ugly words Jin Mi had said to Run Yu during that big fight at the end. She blamed Run Yu for everything because she knew she could get away with it. He loved her too much to do anything to her. If she were honest with herself, it didn't take much for Run Yu to manipulate her into killing Xu Feng. She had already suspected Xu Feng of killing her father, even before Run Yu altered her dreams. Even if he hadn't tampered with her dreams, she might have ended up killing Xu Feng anyway, as the suspicion festered in her mind over her three years of mourning. And yes, she indeed said he didn't deserve to be loved! It was very mean of her, especially after he had given her half of his cultivation and hence shortened his own lifespan. No matter what manipulation he had done prior, this sacrifice should have at least earned him a thank you!
Run Yu's "energy slap" shocked me so much that I gasped when I was watching that scene. That entire scene where he dragged her into the chamber and then threw onto the bed shocked me, actually. He had always been so patient and gentle with her that I wasn't expecting this domineering Run Yu. But as the shock faded away, I started to laugh and thought, "Wow, lady, you were asking for that." Haha. I think Jin Mi was quite flabbergasted and shocked herself. I don't think Run Yu had ever shown this side of himself to her and she didn't know how to handle it. What did you think about how he gently lifted her legs onto the bed after he knocked her out? I thought it was hilarious. It was as if Run Yu was at the end of his patience with her obstinate attitude and just had to shut her up. WIth her passed out and no longer arguing with him, he could finally return back to his civil, gentlemanly style again.
Poor Kuang Lu. I don't know why she insisted on hanging around Run Yu when she knew he will never look at her romantically. (Even Luo Yunxi confirmed this fact during his webcast.) Jin Mi even gave Run Yu the thumbs up to take her as his concubine, and yet, he turned her offer down flat. Kuang Lu heard it herself when she was eavesdropping outside. I think if Jin Mi did marry Run Yu, he would have eventually relocated Kuang Lu, despite her objections. He was too desperately in love with Jin Mi to do anything to give Jin Mi a reason to leave him. Kuang Lu was a loyal and capable subordinate, but in Run Yu's eyes, nothing and nobody could compare to Jin Mi in importance. Kuang Lu should just move on. If Liao Yuan Jun (Xu Feng's loyal guard) had lived, he would have been a good match for Kuang Lu.
After reading your analysis of Jin Mi and Run Yu's first meeting, I went back and watched that scene with fresh eyes. With your explanation, it's incredible how it all made sense about why she would randomly give him a red silk string. She was probably testing out her ability to reel a guy in with a few smiles. This made me think of her words to her son at the end of the drama. She said she had easily fished out Xu Feng with a straight fishing hook, because he wanted to be caught so badly. Now thinking of those words, I think Jin Mi indeed knew exactly what she was doing this entire time with Xu Feng and Run Yu. Some viewers thought Jin Mi was simple and dumb. Boy, was she far from simple and dumb!
At the very end of the drama, Jin Mi said that there were two men in her heart, one by her side and one far away. She was obviously referring to Xu Feng and Run Yu, respectively. Those words made me wonder if Jin Mi did have some romantic feelings for Run Yu. Had Xu Feng remained dead, I think she would have eventually learned to love Run Yu a little bit more each day, until those days turned into a lifetime of love, just as Run Yu had hoped for.
Could someone explain the ending to me? Jin Mi was mortal, but Xu Feng was immortal and together they had a half mortal-half immortal son? So Jin Mi would grow old and die eventually, leaving Xu Feng as a single parent? But if she was a mortal, how come she seemed to remember Run Yu? It didn't make sense. I wished the drama (and novel) had ended with Jin Mi's death. It would have had a more memorable impact and would not seem as if the drama was catering to the fans and forcing a happy ending. 2 Melanie Melanie 6 months ago By the way, in the novel, Jin Mi allowed Run Yu to passionately kiss her thoroughly during the scene when Run Yu had revealed his dragon tail to her the second time. However, in the drama, they removed the kiss and instead had Run Yu steal a chaste but heartbreaking kiss from Jin Mi while she was sleeping.
Funny that you should mention how Run Yu found comfort in Jin Mi mistaking him for a carp and calling him Little Fish Immortal. I find this whole fish-dragon concept very interesting in the story. In Chinese mythology, the dragon was a magical creature representing strength, intelligence, power, and auspiciousness. Chinese emperors were thought to be dragons. And yet, Run Yu, who was a true dragon, ironically longed to be a fish. He didn't want to be a flashy and conspicuous dragon soaring through the heavens; he just wanted to be an inconspicuous fish wading quietly through calm waters. He just wanted to fit in with the rest of the fish in that lake he spent his childhood in. Throughout the drama, he mentioned how he loved that Jin Mi never shunned his "ugly" appearance even after seeing his true dragon form. Such interesting choice of words! Run Yu was never described as ugly in the novel, nor was he ugly in the drama. And in his true dragon form, he was majestic, certainly not "ugly." These words really showed how emotionally damaged he was. Please, Jin Mi! Just give this poor guy a real hug. He needs one so badly but he only wants it from you, Jin Mi! 1 KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago Melanie I also am enjoying these discussions! I always value those that have opposing opinions because I can always learn something but let us be honest... Everyone loves to find others that share similar views. During the airing most people that I spoke with really made Jin Mi to be the helpless victim and Run Yu the evil person that would not let her love Xu Feng. I tried to see it that way but I just could not... I could only see Run Yu as the one that gave far too much and received so little in return.
And I agree that I also felt a lot more chemistry watching the outtakes and behind the scenes footage with Deng Lun and Yang Zi!!! They were playful and silly... Teasing each other... It looked like they were having so much fun on the set! I wish some of that had come across on screen. Odd thing is that in the behind the scenes clips I felt no real chemistry between Yang Zi and Luo Yunxi... But there weren't that many clips with them. I noticed that they focused more on him and Du Bella singing. But onscreen Luo and Yang had a beautiful tension that was hard to explain... I really would love to see them pair as the main OTP...
When Jin Mi said that there were 'two men in her heart' she was definitely referring to Xu Feng and Run Yu. I really think that she loved Run Yu but she could not fall in love with him.... There is a big difference... The problem was that she met Xu Feng first and I really believe that the first person that stirs feelings of love is always going to be special whether it is a good or bad relationship. Xu Feng was the first person to introduce her to a new world, the first attractive male that took interest in her, the first person to kiss her, etc. He stirred things in her that she never felt before.
So when Run Yu came along she was already attracted to Xu Feng. I think that no matter what poor Night Immortal did he could never stir the interest in her the way Xu Feng did. If she had met Run Yu without Xu Feng he may have been the one to stimulate those first interest and she would have pulled to him. Maybe if Xu Feng had backed off while she was still sorting her feelings she could have pulled more to Run Yu.
What irritated me about Xu Feng was he did not back off... I know the argument that some have made is "But he is in love!". He is also an Immortal and knows the rules of engagement and how things work in the Heavenly Realm. I refuse to believe that he is the son of the Emperor and does not know anything no matter how coddled or sheltered he was. I could have had more respect if he had backed down to give Run Yu time to get to know Jin Mi... And then if Run Yu went through with the takeover of the Heavenly Realm and assisting the murder of his brother I hate to say I may have supported Xu Feng more... But I could not because he had no respect for the alliances that could be formed through the marriage, the rules of the Heavenly Realm when it came to engagements and especially his disrespect for Run Yu. The idea that he did not care about Run Yu's feelings, when in reverse Run Yu immediately thought of Xu Feng's feelings, really set me in a wrong place with Xu Feng... That selfishness is why he definitely belonged with Jin Mi.
As for the energy slap scene, I was laughing so hard when Run Yu 'gently' lowered her down and lifted her feet placing them softly on the bed. No matter how nice a person is... No matter how soft they are in heart... Everyone has a breaking point... Run Yu IMO had snapped... That was the emotional cord and she tripped it! He had giving everything he could... She was not going to mess up all that he had fought for and all that he had waited so patiently for... And at that moment he was like, "WOMAN... Shut up! I have had enough of you!..." Not saying it was right... But I could understand... (^O^)
I saw that as the point where nothing mattered anymore to him except getting what he wanted... And what he wanted was Jin Mi... She was not going to leave him and that was it... Will comment more in the next post... Hope others are enjoying this discussion as well.. (^_^) 2 Melanie Melanie 6 months ago Kuroi, I think you were probably hanging around forums populated by Deng Lun fans, and hence, a lot of the opinions were biased in his character Xu Feng's favor. If we set actor fangirling aside and merely make a list of pros and cons for both Run Yu and Xu Feng, I actually think Xu Feng would come out below Run Yu. Xu Feng gave people the initial impression of righteousness and benevolence. Plus, the celestials viewed him through rose-colored glasses, because he was the firstborn son of the reigning Heaven Empress. Of course, everything about him was wonderful, and even if he had a few flaws, people brushed those aside, because who dared question the integrity and virtue of the almighty and hugely popular Fire God? He had money, status, looks, the fancy palace filled with people who couldn't wait to kiss the ground he walked on. But if you looked more closely, Xu Feng was only righteous if it suited him. If it didn't suit him, he didn't hesitate to take what he wanted, no matter whom he had to step on, because by god, he had always gotten what he wanted! So why should a little thing like publicly stealing his brother's fiancee matter? In fact, his older brother should be GRATEFUL that he, the almighty and privileged Fire God, even considered Ren Yu's fiancee worthy and beautiful enough to steal. Such entitled characters who hide behind a veil of generosity and virtue just bother me. I sound bitter, right? Like I said, I loved Xu Feng in the drama initially. Then he had to go and disregard propriety and basic respect for his older brother in trying to take what was not his to take. From then on, his character slipped lower and lower until he could no longer save himself.
I agree that first loves are forever memorable. However, I don't think they are necessarily the correct or best choice when it comes to choosing a lifetime partner. Oftentimes, first loves exist during a time of innocence, at that brink of adulthood when the world is carefree and full of hope. When maturity and reality set in, the rosiness fades and someone who had once been so compatible no longer is the right person to accompany us on life's path into the future. Hence, when other choices appear, we should keep an open mind. In Xu Feng, Run Yu, and Jin Mi's case, I am not saying that Run Yu is the better lifetime partner for Jin Mi, but I am saying he is the more mature and calmer one of the two men. Xu Feng is a hot flickering flame, dangerous and yet so hypnotizing (at least in the novel version), whereas Run Yu is a slow-flowing but deep river, steadily and dependably moving along with just enough ripples to be interesting but not so many to disrupt the tranquility. Brash and fiercely passionate are fun and exciting for a brief moment in time, but eventually, a steady but deep love will last forever and stand the test of time. 3
Фанатские дискуссии с просторов интернета -2 читать дальше3 Xu Jiye Xu Jiye 6 months ago Melanie indeed, I think the drama added in a lot of scenes that gave an understandable explanation for the audience to forgive Run Yu, but in the novel, there was no explanation given for his actions. In the drama, He had a pitiful and tragic past and was treated unfairly all throughout his childhood, meanwhile his brother Xu Feng was loved by the empress and the emperor and was carefully protected under the wings of his parents. I don’t know what Xu Feng would have done if he went through all the Run Yu did, maybe he would have done the same things as Run Yu, maybe not. In the drama, Xu feng has been portrayed as this heroic figure who was well respected and proud, while Run Yu has always been living in his shadow - the king never gave any military power to him when Xu feng was there.
Yes, maybe Xu feng did give Run Yu a lot of items that was unimportant to him, but he did care for him and did it out of brotherly love. For a long time, he insisted and believed that it wasn’t Run Yu Who was trying to kill him although all the evidence was pointing directly at him. Xu feng has done a lot of wrong things to Run Yu but they were all regarding Jin mi, the woman that he loves and could give up his life for , such as sleeping with his brothers fiancé, jumping into the mortal world after her etc. But what was Run Yu doing at that time? Xu Feng jumped into the mortal world after her and run Yu didn’t visit her before he saw Jin Mi giving Xu Feng a bath in the Celestial Fox’ and became jealous. He knew that the Spirit Extinguishing Arrow was on the loose and that the people of Demon World had their plans set to use it on Xu feng, meanwhile the empress had her eyes set on Jin Mi being the victim of the arrow. If Xu feng could find about it, the empress could find out about it, and even Liu Ying could find out about it, with Run Yu’s broad information line, how could he not know? If he knew, why didn’t he go save his brother and Jin mi? Could he not guess that Xu Feng jumped after her because Jin mi was in danger? Did he not think that he could protect her better as a celestial? He was only busy recovering his memories and finding his mother during the second half of the mortal world, he had nothing bothering him at the start so why didn’t he go?
As for Xu feng sleeping with Jin mi, if Run Yu cares so much about her, why did he allow her to do so? As Jin mi had said to him, he only allowed her to go in and out of Qi Wu Palace because he wanted to use her to tie Xu feng down. However, judging by the fact that she was angry at Run Yu for lying to her and using her, and that she lost control of her emotions, you could argue that Jin mi was pinning everything on Run Yu and blaming him for everything. To look at the situation in a different way, Run Yu allowed Jin mi to go visit Xu feng often because he trusted her and wanted her to be happy. He doesn’t want her to feel that her engagement with him would restrict her of her freedom to make friends. After finding out about their romantic night, is it not quite obvious to him that Jin mi does not love him and is in love with Xu Feng? He believed that Jin mi was incapable of love because of the loveless pill, but after seeing that her love for Xu Feng strong enough to crack the pill, what right does he have to repair it and take away her freedom to love?
Of course, Run Yu May have truly loved Jin mi, after all, he did give up half his lifetime to save Jin mi. She was the warm ray of light that shone into his dark lonely nights, and he clung to her like a drowning man would clung onto his last hope of survival but he should not have his trickery and manipulation to keep her by his side. Xu Feng indeed did Run Yu wrong, but his actions were not the slightest way as severe as Run Yu. Run Yu manipulated Jin Mi to kill Xu Feng 1) because his mother killed his mother, so he will kill his son instead to make the empress get a taste of what it was like to lose a loved family member. 2) because he posed as a threat to his happy future with Jin Mi. He knew that with Xu feng around, Jin mi would never fall in love with him and he was afraid that one day, Jin mi would overcome the effects of the loveless pill and fall for Xu feng again. Xu Feng had said to Jin mi once that if she was in love with Run Yu, he would naturally be happy for them and offer them his best wishes, but of course, he could only be saying that because he knew that Jin mi loved him, not Run Yu. But Run Yu was unable to do that, he plotted his way into the engagement with Jin Mi and was guilt tripping her to stay by his side. If you truly love someone, shouldn’t you let them go and want them to be happy? Maybe that is easily said than done, and too virtuous for anyone to do but if you love someone, shouldn’t you push them towards the light rather than dragging them down into the dark black hole of despair with you? Did he think that when Jin mi eventually realises that she killed the man that she loved, she would be able to face the future as carefree and happy as she did before? Did he think that when she ever finds out about his schemes, it would not cause her to hate herself for stupidly believing him? Even if Jin mi eventually does fall in love with Run Yu, and stops loving Xu feng, would she not feel bad and live in guilt because she killed a man that would willingly put down his life for her by using his feeling for her to kill him? Is his personal selfish desire for company and love really worth the bet of risking Jin mi’s entire happy future? I don’t know.
I don’t hate Run Yu, I just dislike him. He was an interesting characters and through him, we were able to see what a person could do when they are pushed passed their breaking point. I enjoyed watching his different stages of growth and how he was eventually forced onto the wrong path of revenge. But we cannot deny that his actions were wrong and unforgivable. Xu feng would do him wrong because of Jin mi, but he wouldn’t go as far as killing his brother to tie so Jin mi would have no choice but to be with him. Run Yu may have a plethora of reasons for his ruthless actions, but one always has the choice of picking between right and wrong. Even after Jin mi killed Xu feng and he resurrected, finding out that run Yu forced his mother to jump to her death and that his father died because of Run Yu’s filial ingratitude, his first instinct was not to seek for revenge by taking the throne as demon Lord. It wasn’t until he realises that run Yu was determined to kill him that he decided to take up the throne because that was the only shelter that he could take. It was either that or be killed by his own brother and waste Jin mi (or Sui he as he may have believed then)’s efforts in resurrecting him. Even in the very end, it was Run Yu who led the army against the demon world and wanted to battle to death with Xu feng. We may pity Run Yu’s actions, but we can’t mix our pity with morals. I understand where Run Yu is coming from, but if I ever meet a Run Yu in real life, i would flee as far as possible in the opposite direction from him because there is no limit in the extent that he would go to achieve his aims 2 Brenda T Brenda T 6 months ago I understand and agree with you on many of your points. My biggest gripe with Run Yu, as I said above, was his method. Aside from that, I found him to be a sympathetic person throughout the majority of the drama. He's the more interesting character because he had more character development. It makes me think of Yan Xun from Princess Agents (and honestly, in Princess Agents I didn't care how ruthless YX was I rooted for him up until the final episode). They both started off good and just but both were pushed into a corner by people they considered friends/ family. He truly was kind-hearted and loved both Jin Mi and Xu Feng. He really would've laid the world at XF's feet. The parents' generation just screwed everything up for the three of them. I don't think he would've done anything drastic until the empress killed his mother. He was angered by the romance between XF and JM in the mortal realm, but I don't think he would've staged anything as elaborate as his coup during his wedding until his mother was killed. He planned the coup but I don't think he actually wanted XF to die but it was a necessary means to an end. He did mourn XF's death and he did feel regret for it because he truly did love him. After all, his happiest moments growing up were with XF. Unfortunately his hatred for the empress won over his affection for XF. I agree that XF was ignorant to what his mother was doing. I suppose that happens when everything is handed to him on a silver platter. It's kind of similar to everyone always siding with him. One thing that always bothered me was that the Fox Immortal Uncle always sided with XF. He always condemned everything RY did and I loved when RY stood his ground and told him that no one had the right to judge his actions now because growing up, everyone saw what he went through and willingly chose to ignore it. It's just that RY got caught up in that momentous cycle of hatred that he couldn't step away anymore once XF was revived. 1 Xu Jiye Xu Jiye 6 months ago Yes, that is true. I suppose every tragic story has a reason behind it. Run Yu, Xu Feng and Jin Mi were just unfortunate to have been caught up in the rivals of the previous generation. Run Yu reminded me of Yan Xun too, but I've always shipped Xing Yue together although I must admit, Chu Qiao and Yan Xun had many cute scenes together and that she was more carefree when she was with him. Chu Qiao cared more about justice, revenge and valued her personal morals and loyalty above all. But Jin Mi, on the other hand was a different story. Her happiest memories were with Xu Feng and she has always trusted everyone. A mistake that both Yan Xun and Run Yu made was to use the girl they loved to kill/plot to kill the man that they were in love with, using their love for them. (We all know how badly those plots backfired on them) KuroiHato69 KuroiHato69 6 months ago Melanie you said everything that I have said many times about the characters but especially Run Yu. ALL of the characters did things that were inappropriate. I did not read the novel but based on the drama alone I truly feel that everyone did something that was distasteful. But that is what set this drama apart from so many others is the development of the characters and that no one (except the Demon Princess) was truly 'good' or 'evil'.
Run Yu was a product of abuse (emotional and physical) and neglect. He does not know how to love but it is the one thing he wants more than even his own life... I truly understand every motivation that this character had and it is always nice to see others that saw him the same... I just cannot see him as 'the villain' but a damaged individual that never got a chance to heal.... Xu Jiye Xu Jiye 6 months ago KuroiHato69 yes, I’m the drama, I don’t see anyone as a villian. Maybe not even the demon princess. All that she’s ever wanted was the man she loved to love him and if she did get his love, maybe she wouldn’t have went hurling down the wrong path. In a way, I feel like she doesn’t deserve to be loved after she manipulated Yan You using his feelings for her to get him kicked out of Sky World. All misdoings cannot be forgiven using love as an excuse, but I do pity her 1 Melanie Melanie 6 months ago (edited) Yes, I agree. Everyone in the drama was straddling the fence between good and bad.
I actually started off really liking Xu Feng in the drama. In the novel, Xu Feng was the logical male character to ship with Jin Mi, since Run Yu was shrouded in mystery for the entire novel. It was hard to completely understand Run Yu, and I didn't really realize he had all along manipulated everyone until the very end of the novel. Then, BOOM! I realized Run Yu was the mastermind behind everything. That was a shocker. In contrast, Xu Feng, though rash and bad-tempered in the novel, was obviously a righteous person. He was your typical heroic character, predictable, respectable, cool because he was the War God, etc. Therefore, he was the obvious choice for Jin Mi.
However, in the drama, Run Yu was fleshed out so well that he suddenly morphed into an extremely interesting, fun-to-watch anti-hero (as KuroiHato called him). In fact, he was so interesting of a character that I humbly feel that Run Yu played a major part of driving the plot forward, whereas Xu Feng just sort of reacted to what everyone did to him. For a calm, unassuming character, Run Yu was very proactive when he set his mind to something.
Xu Feng, on the other hand, suddenly faded into the background. In trying to "clean up" his character a bit for the drama to perhaps make him more socially acceptable to female viewers (?), Xu Feng unfortunately lost his magnetism. He was no longer the brash, swaggering hero, but a watered-down, tame boy, who spent most of his time trying to steal his brother's fiancee, instead of doing his job of training his army and protecting the Heaven Realm. I blame the sсript. Unfortunately, the sсript is what it is.
At the risk of being stoned by Deng Lun's fans, I also think that there was just something missing about Deng Lun's Xu Feng (at least, for me). I can't exactly pinpoint it, but he just couldn't bring Xu Feng to life for me. He did not resemble the War God I had in mind at all, not even a watered-down version. He just didn't have that elusive "presence" so important for a male lead, especially one playing a War God. This is my first time seeing Deng Lun in a drama, and I certainly see his potential, but there is always room for improvement. He seems like a nice guy in the behind the scenes clips. I think he will become a great actor with more experience.
Luo Yunxi, on the other hand, really outshone the rest of the cast, in my opinion. Of course, this is completely subjective. His facial expressions and mannerisms, the way he transformed from the easy-going, soft-spoken Little Fish Immortal to the lethally calculative, powerful Heaven Emperor to the desperately-in-love man when with Jin Mi to the hilarious Yan You impersonator, were simply stunning. I am happy for his recognition and success and hope he will eventually attain male lead status.
Yang Zi did a good job, but her character Jin Mi, unfortunately, became less and less likable as the drama progressed. Don't even get me started on Jin Mi! I loved Jin Mi up until she went for her mortal trial. Yang Zi does ditzy and cute very well, and she made Jin Mi so lovable that no wonder she had Xu Feng and Run Yu twirled around her little finger. However, as the drama progressed, Jin Mi lost that naivety and exuberance that made her so attractive. In fact, with time, I think she could be in the same league as Run Yu in terms of manipulativeness. For instance, she pre-meditated Xu Feng's murder! She knew she couldn't match him in fighting skills. So instead, she gave him a strand of hair, gambling that he would keep it at his most vulnerable place, where the source of his cultivation was, all to ensure that when she stabbed him, she could easily locate his vulnerable spot and make her attack all the more lethal. Then, she actually stabbed him in the back! In the back! Backstabber! OMG!
Jin Mi also had Run Yu wrapped around her finger and certainly took advantage of his love for her, whether she admitted to doing so or not. After Xu Feng's death, she could have left the Celestial Realm and returned to the Floral Realm. But she chose to stay with Run Yu, even while refusing to marry the poor guy. It was like she was stringing him along. I am not sure why she did that. Plus, not once did I see her perform her Water Goddess duties. Wasn't she suppose to control the rain and snow, make sure all sea life was well? She did none of that and instead spent all her time moping about, or trying to atone for her mistakes. I bet Run Yu probably did her Water Goddess duties for her (on top of having to attend to his own Heaven Emperor responsibilities), just so his court officials wouldn't raise a ruckus about Jin Mi's negligence and just so she could keep her title and position. Then, she went and raised a huge fit about how Run Yu didn't love her near the end of the drama. Had she conveniently forgotten that he had given half of his life's cultivation to save her? And if she thought he didn't love her, why did she so confidently tell the Eldest Floral Chief (Mu Dan) when she escaped with Yan You to the Floral Realm that Run Yu would never harm her should he recapture her? Ugh. Don't forget she kept harassing Xu Feng in the Demon Realm after reviving him. He obviously didn't want her anymore, and yet, she kept going there to disturb him. She didn't care about Xu Feng's feelings or wants. All she wanted was for him to forgive her (and love her again) so that she could be happy again. It's all about her. Who cares how Xu Feng or Run Yu feels, right? Ugh.

That's what Ren Yu is hoping for. Remember what he said to Jin Mi? He doesn't ask that she love him deeply; he only asks that she love him a little bit more each day, a little bit more each month, a little bit more each year, until that love becomes everlasting. I think he has one of the best lines ever delivered by a man desperately in love with a woman who does not return his feelings. I was very sympathetic towards Ren Yu in the novel, because although he was calculative, there was always a hint of longing and sadness hovering underneath that calm facade. I think Luo Yunxi did an excellent job of portraying that loneliness and desperate need to hold onto the only thing he had ever cared enough to fight for - Jin Mi. After Luo Yunxi, I cannot imagine another actor playing Ren Yu. 9 Brenda T Brenda T 7 months ago @Melanie I understand his patience and find him commendable for it. It's just that his tactics for owning his love were quite horrible. He was the one who knew how deeply they loved each other and conspired against them the most. He also used his knowledge of her unfeeling pill to make them doubt each other. If he was upfront about his intentions like Sui He was then I honestly wouldn't care. It's his two-faced method that makes me think even if he waited centuries and she still didn't love him or spare him a second glance, it'd be his karma. 4 Xu Jiye Xu Jiye 7 months ago Melanie exactly, his line was very sad and touching. He perfectly depicts the emotions of a person dealing with unreciprocated love. It’s undeniable that he loves Jin Mi a lot but I disagree with his tactics in trying to get Jin Mi. He’s a pitiful character as all his life, he never had a taste of love. He was seperated from his mother at birth and was always getting blames for things that he didn’t do from his stepmother. He didn’t know how to love and spent his time acquainted with the night, the stars and a lone deer. So the first time he falls in love, he doesn’t know the “right” way to love. So he does the only thing that his heart wanted him to do - keep her by his side. In a way, he deserves his karma. He knew that what he was doing was unforgivable (fixing the loveless pill, misleading Jin Mi into killing Xu Feng). He knew that Jin Mi and Xu Feng were In Love with each other but he destroyed their relationship. Xu Feng always treated him as a good brother and never did him wrong, he shared everything with him and was always the first person to stand out and protect him, but he stole his lover, his throne, and caused his lover to kill her. I feel like that was very heartless thing to do. 5 Xu Jiye Xu Jiye 7 months ago Brenda T yes, I totally agree, I just don’t like the way he pretends to be the kindest person in the world and uses everyone as his pawn, even the girl that he claims to love. I would admire his honesty if he just faced Xu Feng at the beginning and told him that he likes Jin mi and his intentions on stealing the throne but he didn’t. He pretended not to care, pretended to be best brothers with Xu Feng, got close to Jin mi and plotted the whole tragedy that followed. If I was Jin mi, I wouldn’t choose him either. If he was actually the kind Run Yu that he pretended to be at the start, he might’ve still had the chance, but the manipulative Run Yu would take up too much energy to love. Even if he treated me with great kindness and love, I would still find it hard to love him when I see or hear about his ruthless and cruel methods he uses to achieve his aims 2 Melanie Melanie 7 months ago Yes, Ren Yu did not achieve his goals through honorable methods. However, Xu Feng was not exactly squeaky clean, either. The drama "cleaned up" his character quite a bit. In the novel, Xu Feng, while he never did manipulate Jin Mi, did something I felt was far worse. He initiated intimacy with her under questionable circumstances. In the drama, Jin Mi's Passionless Pill cracked, leading her to develop feelings for Xu Feng. Hence, their intimate union was consensual. In the novel, the circumstances of their union were very, very shady on Xu Feng's part. In the novel, Jin Mi's Passionless Pill never cracked and she continued to feel nothing for Xu Feng. Being naive to sexual intimacy between men and women, she was under the misguided belief that intimacy with men could increase her cultivation. While Xu Feng was unaware of the presence of the Passionless Pill inside Jin Mi, he was a smart guy, who I am sure figured out that something was a bit off about Jin Mi and her complete unawareness of sex. Instead of making sure she knew what she was getting into, he simply had intercourse with her at a time when she was mentally unable to give complete consent. In addition, even if Jin Mi was mentally capable of giving full consent (as in the drama), shouldn't Xu Feng have waited to sleep with his own brother's fiancee? Maybe he should have waited for Ren Yu and Jin Mi's engagement to be broken off first. Instead, he was quite eager to cuckold his own older brother. I bet he would be just as angry as Ren Yu had the situation been reversed. 7 Xu Jiye Xu Jiye 7 months ago yes, i suppose you have a point. when i was reading that scene in the novel, i was a bit scared, but knowing that JM eventually does fall for him, I didn;t put much thought into it. I suppose both men weren't completely clean either - theyve all made their fair share of mistakes. Maybe if the plot took a different turn and JM feel for RY, maybe we'll hate XF for his actions Melanie Melanie 7 months ago Both Ren Yu and Xu Feng have their faults, but I have no doubt that both men would lay down their lives for Jin Mi. What gives Ren Yu a bit more edge, in my opinion, is his more handsome looks. I admit I am very fickle and will gravitate toward male eye candy. Deng Lun, while very likable and sweet in the off-screen clips, just doesn't fit my idea of the "most handsome man in the six realms," as Xu Feng is suppose to be. I think that title should go to Luo Yunxi's Ren Yu. Of course, this is personal taste, but if I were Jin Mi, I would be running toward Ren Yu's open arms and kissing his handsome face. As a side note, I have seen some nice fan-made videos of Yang Yang (in his golden battle armor when he played Ye Hua) and Yang Zi, and I must admit that Yang Yang looked far more like my perception of Xu Feng than Deng Lun did. Again, it's my personal opinion. If Yang Yang had played Xu Feng alongside Luo Yunxi's Ren Yu, then Jin Mi would most definitely have a difficult time choosing between two very handsome brothers. 5 Xu Jiye Xu Jiye 7 months ago Melanie I think yang yang would be suited to Run Yu more. He’s warm-hearted and kind unlike the fiery, passionate personality of the Fire God that Xu Feng is meant to be. Like in One Smile Is Very Alluring and tornado girl, he portrays a warm character that is very considerate and caring (which Run Yu appeared to be) Xu Jiye Xu Jiye 7 months ago Melanie I think yang yang would be suited to Run Yu more. He’s warm-hearted and kind unlike the fiery, passionate personality of the Fire God that Xu Feng is meant to be. Like in One Smile Is Very Alluring and tornado girl, he portrays a warm character that is very considerate and caring (which Run Yu appeared to be) Melanie Melanie 7 months ago Hmm, I don't know... I think after Luo Yunxi's excellent performance of Ren Yu, I can't imagine anyone else being Ren Yu. Who is your ideal casting for Xu Feng? By the way, have you read Dian Xian's other novel, Two Ex-Husbands on One Stage (两只前夫一台戏? The main character, Pei Ren Zhen, is very similar to Ren Yu. In fact, there have been speculations that Dian Xian liked Ren Yu so much that she gave him a second chance at love in 两只前夫一台戏, and that Pei Ren Zhen was sort of a mortal version of Ren Yu. I also found Shen Miao, the female lead, to be very similar to Jin Mi, minus the weird thinking that sex could increase cultivation. :P 3 Xu Jiye Xu Jiye 7 months ago Melanie nope, I haven’t read it. It sounds really good though. I definitely want to start that book soon Melanie Melanie 7 months ago Well, let me know if you like Two Ex-Husbands. It is quite funny initially then turns very touching. The male lead (Pei Ren Zhen) and female lead (Shen Miao) are so reminiscent of Ren Yu and Jin Mi, respectively, that I can totally imagine Luo Yunxi and Yang Zi playing those characters. Pei Ren Zhen even calls Shen Miao "Miao Er," just like how Ren Yu calls Jin Mi "Mi Er." 1 Xu Jiye Xu Jiye 7 months ago Melanie I will haha Sirena82 Sirena82 6 months ago Melanie the novel is not translated yet right. I'm so eager to read it but could not find any translation. If you know of any please let me know. 1 Sirena82 Sirena82 6 months ago Xu Jiye, in regards to ur second comment about RY. I agree with u and how u described him. But, I saw things totally differently in relation to XF. I don't think that RY stole the throne from XF as non of them was the crown prince yet. That why the empress kept pushing RY away. She knew that RY is a dragon and that he was distant to become the emperor. I think she did not want just to push him aside, she was determined to kill him to make sure that XF will get the thrown. We saw her attempting to kill him several time in the drama because of that. And actually RY was the better fit to be an emperor. Even XF knew that. I also did not see XF doing anything to stop his mom from doing all these bad things to RY. I agree that he was honest and did not want RY to die for something he didn't do. But, I never saw XF going out of his way to help RY or share anything with him.He was selfish and self-centered. He took it for granted that he was given every opportunity to show himself while his brother getting non of them. His mom made sure to remove all obstacles for him and RY was one of the main obstacles. she made sure he is never given any opportunity to shin because she knew he would possibly outshine XF. I believe have they both been given the same opportunities, RY will be on par with XF and even exceeds him in diplomacy. That's why, the empress made sure he never get the opportunity to do so and XF took that for granted. 3 Melanie Melanie 6 months ago Hi Sirena82. No, unfortunately, I don't think any fans have picked up Two Ex-Husbands for English translation. However, if you understand Mandarin, you can listen to the audiobook at this site.
The audiobook is very well done, and I really enjoyed Miao Er (female lead) and Pei Yan Zhen's (male lead) voices. (Sorry, I think I misspelled the male lead's name in my earlier posts.) I like to think of Miao Er and Pei Yan Zhen as Mi Er and Ren Yu's mortal counterparts, because the similarities are so obvious, and that Mi Er (as Miao Er) finally turned around and noticed Ren Yu (as Pei Yan Zhen) waiting patiently for her to love him back.
The second male lead in Two Ex-Husbands (the other ex-husband) was not very well developed in the novel, but he seemed very similar to the Ashes of Love drama version of Yan You (the serpent immortal). The second male lead, too, loved Miao Er very much. Xu Jiye Xu Jiye 6 months ago Sirena82 That is true. Xu Feng was oblivious to his mother’s wrongdoings when he was a child (the scene where Xu feng was drunk with the first time, he told Run Yu that it was one of his happiest childhood moments. He was shocked when he found out that his mother punished Run Yu for it) later when he grew up, he did share everything with Run Yu, he gave him medicine and other items. In the first few eps, when the empress blamed Run Yu for attempting to kill Xu feng during nirvana, Xu feng protected him and spoke for him. He was an obedient son, and cared a lot about filial gratitude which was considered to be very important in ancient China. As a son, he could not openly defy his mother. As a brother, he fulfilled his duty by speaking for Run Yu and proving his innocence. All that the empress has done was for Xu feng, but as he had said, he never wanted it and never intended on fight for it with Run Yu. But run Yu knew that Jin mi and Xu feng were in love, but he manipulated the Jin mi’s father into giving him Jin mi’s hand in marriage. Despite his love for Jin mi being true, he selfishly tricked Jin mi into killing the man that she loved to fulfill his only selfish desire to be the Sky King. He was wrong in using the girl that he loved against his enemy who was the brother that always treated him with kindness and trusted him. Even when Xu feng told him that he was willing to give him the throne in exchange for Jin mi, he still plotted to use Jin mi to kill him during the wedding. If he really wanted to kill him,he could always have a battle with him, and kill him with a legitimate excuse but he used the most ugliest method to do it. 1 Melanie Melanie 6 months ago I feel like Xu Feng only had a peripheral understanding of the neglect and emotional mistreatment Ren Yu had suffered from childhood until adulthood. He knew superficially that his mother was not very warm toward his older brother, but I don't think he knew, or chose not to believe, how cruel his mother could be. Xu Feng was the privileged golden boy who had everything and everyone's admiration and respect. When he gave things to Ren Yu, it was like a well-meaning gesture that the wealthy pass out to the poor. He was being kind, no doubt, but never could he understand what it was like to be Ren Yu, unless he had walked in Ren Yu's shoes. He was willing to be kind and generous with his older brother when it came to items that weren't important to him. But when he truly wanted something (Jin Mi), he did not hesitate to take as he pleased, without stopping to think whether his actions were right and respectful toward his older brother. If Ren Yu was selfish in trying to keep Jin Mi by his side, then Xu Feng was just as thoughtless and selfish when he went down to the mortal realm with Jin Mi and asked the Moon God to tie him and Jin Mi together romantically. It was a highly inappropriate request, given that Jin Mi was his brother's fiancee, an engagement that she had openly agreed to in front of the Heavenly Emperor. (Whether she knew what she was agreeing to was another matter, since she didn't have any partial feelings toward Xu Feng, either, at that moment in time.)
Ren Yu is such a multi-faceted and fascinating character that I feel like his added scenes in the drama are crucial to the understanding of the evolution of his character and the inevitable unfolding of the plot. In contrast, Xu Feng is pretty much a straightforward heroic type that he doesn't require much elaboration to understand his character.
In a way, Xu Feng's intimacy with Ji Mi and his public challenge and declaration that he intended to take Jin Mi away from Ren Yu were pretty much the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Already, the years of emotional abuse and neglect had traumatized Ren Yu, even though he did a great job of hiding the emotional scars. Then, his mother's murder right in front of his eyes further inched Ren Yu closer to the edge. To someone who had never dared to hope for happiness and love, Ren Yu, of course, viewed Jin Mi's appearance as a breath of fresh air and his salvation; she became the light of Ren Yu's lonely existence. (I am sure Jin Mi's peerless beauty helped deepen Ren Yu's feelings.) Therefore, when Xu Feng threatened to take Ren Yu's bright ray of light (Jin Mi) away, he was simply asking his older brother to kill him.
